Quickly we made our way back to the first Hub Room and inserted the key-charm into the only blue socket we hadn't tried. Once the chamber had finished rotating we were faced with another stone-cut corridor with a pair of doorways at the end. The corridor walls were thick with soot and scattered along its length were a handful of skeletons whose bones had been charred almost to dust.
Before we could take more then half-a-dozen steps down the corridor a seething ball of flame bounced into view from the far end of the corridor. The ball was about five feet in diameter and clearly had some degree of mass but it bounced along in a strangely weightless, if purposeful, manner. In may ways it reminded me of the product of the spell "Flaming Sphere" and , it if hadn't been for Rawsa's assertion that we were the first living people she had met, I would had toyed with the idea that there was a wizard hiding somewhere up ahead.
Perhaps rather optimistically Nev tried to talk to the ball but that only seemed to get it's attention and it pounced on him, engulfing the psion in flame. War-Forged, standing next to Nev, reacted in a way I wouldn't have predicted; he slammed his shield into Nev. Latter War-Forged explained that he was trying to knock Nev clear of the flame but the only thing he succeeded in doing was knocking Nev unconscious while still engulfed in the flame.
Fraiya made a brave but ultimately futile attempted to dose the flame with the contents of his water skin. B
