So, the question was should we go up or down?

The shaft extended in either direction for as far as we could see but as it was clogged with thick nets of cob-webs that that wasn't very far at all. Nev announced that "his friend" could help and, from inside his tunic, drew out a crystal the shape and roughly the size of a large hen's egg. While at first glance it appeared smooth the crystal's surface was comprised of countless facets and it seemed to have a faint, green luminescence trapped within. Nev was carefully placing the crystal on the rim of the hatchway when War-Forged asked the question we were all thinking, what was it? "A psi-crystal" was the answer but the way Nev said it seemed odd, as if he had an echo. It took we a moment to realise the truth, War-Forged's question had been answered by both Nev and the crystal. A Psi-Crystal, it seemed, was very much like a wizards' familiar but for those that practice the science of the mind. Just as a portion of my arcane essence had been imbued into Sek to give him magical abilities so had part of Nev's psychic power (presumably the green, mist-like energy that twisted lazily within the crystal) was focused into the psi-crystal. After a few moments concentration tendrils of the green energy seemed to seep out of the crystal to form spider-like legs, an image only increased as it went scuttling down the shaft.
