Sharn city bridge
The bridge that spans the void between Kelsa Spire to Dalannan Tower is some fifteen feet wide and fifty feet long. Three pairs of magical torches mounted on posts illuminate it, one pair at either end and the third pair at the centre. To stop people sliding off when the bridge is slick with rain (and, as I may have said, it always rains in Sharn) it is bounded on either side by a guard rail some four feet high.

It was towards that rail that the "axe-man" moved. Two quick strides put his foot upon the rail top and a powerful thrust sent him over the edge. As one we dashed onto the bridge. Toryil and I made straight for the body that lay, apparently lifeless, on the floor. Fraiya and War-Forged ran to the rail and peered down into the darkness in an attempt to spot the assassin. Altera warily hung back.As I knelt down by the Provost I became aware that we five weren't the only ones that had come to his aid. Beside me was a slight figure, probably no more than five and a half feet tall, wearing a broad-brimmed hat and wrapped against the weather in a cloak. Above the cloak's collars and below the hat's rim was a face with distinctly angular features and intense eyes that seemed to have an inner light. He was a Kalishtar, and not just any Kalishtar, but my friend Nevitasharath."Nev" as most called him is a student of the mind, a Psion.

Once I got over my surprise I realised that it wasn't so odd that I should run into him here; Nev and Provost Geldem had been good friends. While I was
